The Society is awarded British Waterways'
Volunteer Recognition Award for the second time
In 2008, the Society was delighted to receive the Volunteer Recognition Award from British Waterways. Now British Waterways has presented the award to the Society for a second time. The award has been made in recognition of all of the Society's activities on the canals of the Shropshire Union system in 2010, including events, enhancement and restoration work parties, and the Working Partnership Initiative.
The presentation took place at the Talbot Inn, Market Drayton on Thursday 27th January 2011 and Wendy Capelle, Waterway Manager for North Wales and Borders Waterway, presented the Society with the award.
Wendy said that the Volunteer Recognition Award recognises the pivotal role the Shropshire Union Canal Society played in the region's waterways.
"It's an appropriate time to place on record our gratitude to the dedication of the group and for their continued hard work with the work parties in the Montgomery Canal, their fundraising and events for the restoration funds and their work along the Shropshire Union and Llangollen Canals", Wendy said.
Society Chairman Terry O'Brien thanked all of the volunteers and members of Council who have given so much of their time and labour to contribute to the well-being of the Shropshire Union canals, and also thanked British Waterways for nominating and presenting the Society with the award.
