GEO Projects produce excellent route
maps to a scale of just over 1" to the mile (1:60 000 approximately)
showing both canal and towing path, complemented by navigational
information including boatyards and moorings. The maps extend from the
canal to include notes on features of interest and access to nearby
towns and villages; street maps are included as enlarged inserts where
appropriate. Reviewed By Ian Hendley |

The Montgomery Canal map, in
particular, shows both the current navigable lengths and the stretches
that still await restoration and well suits the needs of both walkers
and boaters. The maps are essential trip planning aids but can also
double as useful canal guides for boat crews." Reviewed By Ian Hendley The latest edition of the map shows all of the visitor moorings installed by SUCS up to date! Throughout the county. Web Master |

Published in 8 parts, Nicholson's are the
definitive guides to most of the English, Welsh and Scottish inland
waterways; Part 4 - the four counties and welsh canals - provide a
wealth of information for both boater and walker. The latest, 2003
edition follows earlier editions in using Ordnance Survey map
extracts as its basis. Canal, locks and towpaths are highlighted
with additional information such as boatyards, water points and
refuse disposal superimposed at the appropriate points. New for
2003 are the identification of "combined sanitary stations" and
"local food shops" but, unfortunately, this new edition omits to
identify which sanitary stations provide DIY pump out facilities.
Detailed coverage of the Shropshire Union main line, the Llangollen
Canal and the Montgomery canal is good although those familiar with
these waterways will spot the occasional error. Why Nicholson's do
not use individual Canal Societies to source and check information
remains a mystery. On balance though, this guide must be an
essential part of the navigator's armoury - do not leave your
moorings without it !!
